SKGAA Newsletter 10/10/18

SKGAA Newsletter

A chairde,

On Friday week, the 19th of October at 7pm, we will be hosting a special reception to acknowledge the achievements of some of our county representatives who achieved so much this year across all four codes. The club will make a small presentation to each of the players on the night and it will be a chance for all club members to congratulate these players, their coaches, their parents, their team mates and get their photo taken. We would encourage all club members to come along on the evening which will only go on for an hour or so. We would particularly ask parents to make a special effort to bring the younger generation along to inspire them to what can be achieved through playing with the club at all four codes.

Looking forward to seeing you all there.

Lots to report on this week: Congrats to the U15 hurlers who won the Division B Shield in Duggan Park on Monday night. Our senior footballers salvaged a draw in extra time vs Milltown, while both our minor and U16 footballers made crucial steps in their championships. There was a fantastic U10 camogie blitz in the Prairie at the weekend. This weekend, our seniors will play their replay quarter final, our U14 footballers will hope to retain the county title again, our minor footballers will contest the West Board Final, our second U14 girl's football team will contest a county final and much much more

All this and much more below............

Numbers drawn 1,8,21,22

No winner this week.

Jackpot now at €12,800. It could be you.......

Senior

The senior footballers played out a scrappy draw after extra time in tough conditions in Tuam Stadium on Sunday afternoon. A poor start saw the lads go in 4 points down at half time and things looked beyond them by half way through the second half. But a Rober Butler goal sparked SK into life and they fought back well to secure a draw. It was much of the same in the extra time with both teams cancelling each other out and SKGAA even hit the crossbar with the last kick of the game but the draw was probably a fair result as both teams will want to improve if they want to overcome Mountbellew Moylough in the semi final. One positive for SKGAA was the impact of many of the subs on the day showing that it's much more than a 15 player game. Again we would ask SKGAA members to make a special effort to get to Pearse Stadium on Sunday afternoon. YOUR SUPPORT CAN HELP MAKE THE DIFFERENCE.

Minor

The minors are through to the West Board Final and like the U14s are going for a 5 in a row but a very tough task awaits them with Barna, the league champions the favourites for the game. However SKGAA have prepared very well and despite missing a number of key players, a strong win over Leitir Mór in the semi final at the weekend shows the team are ready for the final. Reigning minor champions Claregalway await the winners in the county final the following weekend. Best of luck to the team and management and again all your support is most welcome and appreciated for throw in in Pearse Stadium on Saturday at 3.45pm.

Camogie

U8s  U8 girls train as usual 6 to 7 Thursday in Cappagh and will be playing blitz in Castlegar this coming Sunday.

A hundred U10 girls arrived in the Prairie on Sunday afternoon to take part in the SKGAA U10 Camogie Blitz,

The eight team's included our own 2 teams, Moycullen and  Cois Fharriage who also fielded two teams, Carnmore and  Liam Mellows.

Whilst we had to contest with strong winds, the rain stayed away and the girls played four challenging games against tough opposition.

We have seen great progress throughout the year in the girls skill development. Their determination and team spirit has seen them battle hard which bodes well for the future. There have also had seven new recruits in recent weeks which is really positive going forward.

Many thanks to Joe Maguire and  Nicola Heffernan, for setting up and managing teams. To Clodagh Conlon, Orla Colleran, Dorothy and Robert Carey for all their help in the Arus hospitality suite. To  SKGAA camogie players Ava Conlon, Aoibhe McGinley, Evie Hayes, Aine Daly for refereeing  and also for their coaching assistance throughout the year.

Well done to all our U10 camogie players who showed some real talent, fantastic support play and  made coaches and parents proud !!

The Cappagh Cup Street Leagues continues this Thursday @ 6.00PM in Cappagh Park as four teams battle it out for next weeks finals.

U12s played an entertaining challenge against U10 boys last Friday. Sister against brother , bragging rights competed for and  a few family disputes settled. Result under appeal !!

U12/U13s start wall ball training this Thursday 11th October 6.50 to 8pm. Training also Sunday mornings 8.50 to 10am in Cappagh.

U15s travelled to Kilnadeema to play Shamrocks  last Saturday in second game of U15A league. SK girls put in a good performance but lost out to a good home team in a high quality match. Next match in the league is at home this Sunday at 11am against Carnmore.
