RGU Notes 1st March

This weekend sees the All Ireland Handball semi finals at a Connaught venue. Ryan Dunn represents RGU in the U 15 Singles while Daniel Connolly and Blain Lennon take centre stage in the U 17 doubles. Good luck to the lads in what is a very proud moment for the themselves and also every one connected to RGU.

U 8 & U 10 training starts back this Saturday at 10.30. The coaches have lined up a fantastic program for both sets of players for the incoming year as the budding stars of tomorrow take their bow at PTR. As well as the in house coaches there will also be a regular program of involvement from visiting coaches as well. More details will be forthcoming over the next few weeks. Registration for the U8s and U 10s will take place on Saturday week ( 14th ) though anyone wishing to register this week will be facilitated.

The first round of competitive games in the floodlit league went ahead on Friday night and there was nothing between any of the teams as both games ended in draws. This makes for a compelling second week's fixtures

Girls U 12 training at 12 midday every Saturday at Pairc Tomas Ruiseil. Any new members will be more than welcome
This Saturday sees the first fund raiser of the year organised by the juvenile committee when there will be a Night at The Races in the club. These events have proved to be great fun for all participants recently and this week there will be a major vying for the title of top Jockey as Roisin Hampton, Kyla Trainor and Paul Kelly will vie for the title, though rumour has it that Mal O'Hare and Danny Carville are eyeing top spot.

It was with great sadness that we learned of the death this week of a long standing supporter and friend Danny Gilmore. At one time an ever present at games Danny was afflicted by poor health over the last few years and indeed son Ciaran has been a great servant to RGU over many years. To the extended Gilmore family we extend our deepest sympathy.
Mary queen of the Gael pray for him.

Sunday 15th March is the date for Jimmy's 10K and event which always features on the RGU calendar. As usual the club welcomes any one over 15 to take part in the race which always raised tremendous money for charity whilst any on else can walk the 10K or run in relays. All members are reminded to return the Quiz competition papers to Mart Brady or Collie Quinn as soon as possible. Closing date for entries is 30th March.

Lotto: this week's number were 14,18,21,22. No jackpot inner but 9 people got three numbers to take their share of £100. With the jackpot now at £3900, members are reminded that it the lotto is our main source of income and are encouraged to buy a ticket or two every week.
Over the next few weeks we will be introducing a new concept to the lotto when it will be possible to do the lotto on line through the club website at www.rgudownpatrick.com

Also in the club house there is an opportunity to play ' Find the joker' For just a £1 you can have a stab at winning a cash prize and with cards starting to dwindle the jokermust be uncovered soon.

RGU members are reminded that there will be a fund raising night in the club rooms on St Patrick's Night in aid of Guide Dogs for the Blind.
