And So it Ends! At the Hands of the Dublin Champions The Joes intermediate team went into the quarter final of the Leinster championship on the longest championship winning run of any Joes first team since 1983/84! Not only had they become the first Joes team to win all their group stage championship games, but they had broken that record of Louth championship semi-final defeats which the club had suffered for the previous four years. To top all this off, they had become the first ever Joes team to win a championship game in Leinster.
Joes Win in Leinster for 1st Time & Do it At Cluskey Park The 22nd October 2016 was an historic day for our wee club. Not only was it the first time that we had played a Leinster Championship Match in Louth, but we got to play it at Cluskey Park and most important of all, it was the first time the club won a game in Leinster! It was not amongst our better performances this year, but in a very tight affair our lads showed the grit and determination to hang in and eek out the win.
Intermediate Champions! Full Report On the 25th September 2016, 33 years to the day, that the Joes won their first intermediate championship, they faced into their most recent chance to repeat the feat. Once in between, the club had lifted the Seamus Flood Cup, but the current spell playing at the intermediate grade had been the longest in club history. There was an aching to get back up to Senior, particularly after four years of some heart breaking defeats at the semi-final stage of the competition up until 2016.
