Adult Football
Senior:
Hard luck to the senior footballers who were well beaten by Tuam Stars in Round 3 of the league on Sunday in Tuam. The team were missing a number of regulars and suffered three injuries during the game to compound their efforts. All eyes will now turn to the first round championship clash with Killanin on the final weekend in May. Before that the team will play a special commemorative match in memory of the late Sean Mac Manamon, a former officer, coach, referee, delegate with the club and all round die hard GAA man. This game will take place in Claremorris vs Claremorris on Saturday the 5th of May at 6pm. It has been organised in part by the Mayo Association, Galway and all proceeds of the gate will go to the Green and Red Trust.
Junior:
The juniors are away to Moycullen this Sunday in the second round of the league. Throw in at 1pm.
Junior A:
The Junior As will play their second round game vs Micheal Breathnachs at home in the Prairie this Friday at 7.30pm.
Juvenile Football
U8 training going well Mc Graths pitch tues 6-7, aim for street league to start 2 weeks time.
U-9 enjoyed a blitz v. U-10 Sunday morning.Training / Games continue on Tue's evenings in St.Enda's & McGrath's Field on Sunday mornings.Street League for U-9 /10 will be on Tue 15/22/29th May and 5th June.
U11 played their first 2 games in the 12B city league they drew awayvti Barna in Furbo last Thursday and on Sunday beat Moycullen by 16 scores to 12 in a great display at home in Priarie. This is the teams first real competitive 15 a side games with big numbers turning there are challenges 2 teams will be entered in the County league starting in May
Next game is away to Oranmore next Sunday.
U12s went down in the City League, 11 scores to 6 scores to Barna but we had an improved performance over the loss to Claregalway last week
Feile teams had mixed fortunes
The u14 footballers participated in the A Féile last weekend, starting out with a good win over Bearna on Friday evening in Furbo, on a scoreline of 3-5 to 1-2. Next up was a tough match v Moycullen on Saturday in Killannin pitch. It was an entertaining game with end to end football and some great scores. Unfortunately we came out at the end with a narrow loss of 5-4 to 4-5. This result meant we could not qualify for the semi-final. The lads regrouped despite the disappointment and won the last match v Killannin 2-4 to 1-3. The lads gave everything they had for the cause over the weekend and will get a chance to learn from it during the u14 Championship which continues next Fri at 7.30pm away to Killannin. Of particular note was the feedback we got from the Killannin Club about the exemplary behaviour of our boys at the weekend on and off the pitch. They were a credit to themselves, their families and the club.
U13 footballers had a memorable weekend in winning the Feile B title in impressive fashion. While the football on the field was probably the best this team have produced to date, the attitude on the field and behavior off it was of the highest quality also. The team was based in Milltown and the first game was a 9-08 to 3-05 win against the hosts.
Next up were Northern Gaels (an amalgamation of Glenamaddy, Glinsk and Williamstown) - the team showed great resolve in coming from behind, against a strong wind to win 5-05 to 1-05.
Our semi final against neighboring Bearna resulted in a 7-04 to 1-04 victory. The two teams produced an entertaining and good spirited game. The final on Sunday in Tuam Stadium turned out to be a very close battle with Cortoon Shamrocks. This was a real game where the opposition were ready to play but our lads showed great spirit to come out on the right side of a 1-06 - 2-01 scoreline. We were 6 points up at one stage and lost this margin due to a strong wind. Over the two days we had some really impressive scoring and not only did they win a competition by beating 3 teams above their age group, they did it with super attitude, behavior and support for each other. Many thanks to all traveling parents and club support throughout the two days. Parental support is so important to players this age.
Next up is a league game versus Tuam Stars in Cappagh on Friday at 7.30pm.
U16B's had game vs Annaghdown postponed until next week.
U15 challenge match vs Annaghdown this Sunday and first round of league next Tuesday away to Moycullen.
U16 A had a good win against Barna last week with with a scoreline of 0-15 to 1-6.
Home game against Moycullen on Tuesday resulted in a scoreline to Skgaa of 4-19 to 0-4.
Adult Hurling
Minor Hurling:
Ballygar 1.9 Salthill-Knocknacarra 1.7
A last minute goal deprived SK of victory in this closely contested opening game of the Minor A Championship, played at Turloughmore on Sunday evening last . Playing with a strong wind in the first half Ballygar led bt 0.7 to 0.2 at the interval. Our scores came from two Seanie Joyce frees .Our defense was under pressure in this opening half but they battled hard and did well to deny Ballygar further scoring opportunities . Playing with the wind in the second half ,SK were dominant and three further points and a goal from a penalty by Seanie Joyce levelled the match midway through the half.
Points from play by Donal O Shea and Mikey Kenny put SK two points in front at one stage in the final quarter .Unfortunately Ballygar got through for the goal which won the match in the last minute of normal time . Playing in A Grade for the first time ,this SK team gave a good performance in difficult enough weather conditions .They showed great fighting spirit to stage a great comeback in the second half. This is a strong Ballygar team and SK will benefit from the experience gained from this tough opening game .
Junior and Under 21 Hurling:
Junior and Under 21 Hurlers train tonight, Wednesday at 7pm. Possible Challenge Match this Sunday vs Castlegar in the Prairie at 4pm. TBC . Keep an eye on Social media.
Juvenile Hurling
Nursery Hurling.
Nursery Hurling is now going outdoors from this Friday and new kids welcome.. time is 5:45pm and venue is Cappagh Park.
U8/U7 Hurling
U8 Street League kicked off with huge numbers and some cracking games. Thanks to all who helped.
Training on Friday at 5:45. Please take into account the works in the carpark in Cappagh that is causing delays.
U10/U9 Hurling
U10s played a blitz last week away to Rahoon Newcastle. Thanks to all the 30 boys that turned out. Street Leagues continue tonight at 7pm in Cappagh. Training Friday at 6pm also Cappagh.
U12/U11 Hurling
U12s played challenge game vs Annaghdown on Monday night. Good test in advance of first League game on May 5th. Training continues Mondays 6-7pm and Fridays 7-8pm, both in Cappagh Park.
U14/U13 Hurling
We are playing Eyrecourt in Championship on Monday evening at 6:45pm in the Prairie.
U16/U15 Hurling
Update: U16 hurliers are joint top of the B1 championship, but they have to beat Sylane this Thursday to retain that position. Throw in at 6:45 in Sylane.
The WLAC cycling event on the 28th April is a big fundraiser for all underage coes as well as donating half the takings to Down Syndrome Galway. We need a couple of helpers to make sandwiches and prep food on the evening of Friday the 27th. If you can not make it to help, any home baked scones/flapjacks/buns etc. would be hugely appreciated, and can be dropped to Arus kitchen on Friday the 27th around 6pm. Camogie
U10 take part in “Play for Barnardos” at training tomorrow evening 6pm in Aras. A part of the training session will be dedicated to the initiative and each child contributes €2 to the charity. First match in county blitzes for this group will be next week.
U12s play Turloughmore at home this Sunday at Prairie at 10am. Girls lost out away to Carnmore last weekend.
U14s qualified for B1 county final with a great win over Na Brideoga at the Prairie last Sunday morning. After an even start by both sides the SK girls got a timely burst of scores midway in first half to take the lead that they held to the end. There were strong performances by the girls all over the pitch. Final scheduled to be played next weekend, 4th/5th May.
U16s started their championship with a win away against Cois Fharraige last Sunday on a scoreline of 6.07 to 2.06. This was a really good team effort with big contributions from all the girls. Next match is against Eyrecourt Monday in Cappagh at 7.30.
Junior As had an impressive win against Ballindereen 3.11 to 1.05 in league last Friday evening in Salthill. This Sunday they play final group game against St Dominics at a home venue tbc.
Ladies Football
u16 - Quite week for the U16 Girls. Training Wed 18/4/18 had 31 Girls/Juniors in attendance at Enda's on a dry but chilly evening. 13 Girls Trained Sat 21/4 again at Enda's as Gabriels failed to commit to the trip into Salthill. Next up Training Wed 25th and the planned Qtr final v Gabriels now planned for Sat 12 noon 28/4 in Cappagh Park.
u14 - U14 Girls Div 1 team played a challenge match away on Sunday vs St James's and a league match vs Caherlistrane in Cappagh on Monday. Our girls put in two excellent performances and ran out deserving winners in both. Very encouraging performances throughout the team. U14 Girls Div 4 team are off to Mountbellew this Thursday for league match. Both teams' féiles are on this Sunday 29th in Kilkerrin(Div 1) & Westside(Div 4). Great opportunity for some match time for all the girls who have been working hard. All support welcome!
u12 - Un 12 have 2 matches this week..away to Caltra and home to Annaghdown. Fantastic improvement with every game. More parents required please to help out in coaching, lifts, gear etc. Contact Seán on 086 1038845
