Lorrha GAA News for 18 February

Senior: Lorrha have been drawn against Templederry in the first round of the North Senior Hurling Championship. The game is likely to be played after the County Championship group games have been played.

In the County League, Lorrha will face JK Brackens away in the opening round on Sunday 12th March.

Under 21 Football: Lorrha were given a walkover by Ballinahinch/Templederry in the quarter final of the North U21 'B' Football Championship and will now play Silvermines in the semi-final in Moatfield this Saturday 18th February at 2pm but is subject to change.

Schools: Best of luck to Michael Dolan, David Sullivan, Alan O'Meara and Ollie Cleary who are on the Portumna CS preparing for the Connacht Senior 'B' Hurling final.

Hard luck to Celine Cleary and Clodagh McIntyre who were on Borrisokane CC and Portumna CS teams who lost in All Ireland semi-finals last weekend.

Gaeltacht Scholarships: Applications are now being accepted with a closing date of this Friday, 20th February. Applicants must be 2nd year, TY’s & 5th year students. Application forms from secretary Michael Kennedy.

Tipperary Clubs Draw: Congratulations to Pat Morris, Annagh, who won €500 in the February Tipperary GAA Club's Draw last Friday night.

Membership: for 2017 is now due. €90 – Adult player; €50 – Minor/College student; €30 – Non-playing Adult (+€70 extra for gym membership); €20 – Juvenile (16 and under); €90 – Family (2 adults and 2 children, capped at €100 for three or more children).

Closing date for membership for all adult and juvenile players is the last day of February to be insured in training and games while the closing date for all membership is 31st March. It is important to remember that our total number of adult members by 31st March is the number the County Board will use towards our ticket allocations for Tipperary games so it is in your interest to have membership paid by then. Membership can be paid to club registrar Louise Mannion or can also be done online at www.locallotto.ie. Members can also log onto www.grma.gaa.ie to get their new GAA Rewards card.

Lotto: Our jackpot is €4,200 with a Match 3 pot of €100. You can play online at www.locallotto.ie.

Social Dancing: on Friday night with Sam O'Doherty. Dancing 9.30pm to 12.30am.

Line Dancing: This evening, Wednesday 15th February at Lorrha GAA complex, a night of Line-Dancing will be held from 9.30pm to 12.30am. Admission €8. Refreshments and Raffle on door tickets. One of our patrons will win a donation for a charity of their choice on the door tickets also.

Lorrha CountryFest: A decision was made at a recent joint executive and finance meeting committee not to go ahead with the CountryFest Music Festival in 2017. While last years event was a terrific success for the club and also for the community, the club isn't in a position to take the financial risk involved in running another such event at this present time but would consider running the event again in the future.

Sympathy: Lorrha GAA Club would like to sympathise with the Harding family on the passing of Gilbert Harding, Ballyduff, and to the Hogan and Houlihan families on the passing of John Jack Houlihan, Derrinvohill, Borrisokane. May they rest in peace.
