Ball Wall: The juvenile committee would like to thank David Needham for an excellent ball wall session on Saturday with the 10 to 12 year olds with another session in three weeks time. Next Saturday 19th November David Needham will be running a ball wall session for 13 to 16 year olds at 3.25pm for boys and girls.
Inter-divisional Football: Well done to Kevin Cahalan and Dan Needham who were selected on the North Tipperary Under 13 inter-divisional football team for last weekends tournament with Kevin having the honour of captaining the side.

Lorrha People in the Great War’ by Gerard O’Meara: Best wishes to long serving club member Gerard O’Meara with the launch of his new book ‘Lorrha People in the Great War’ in the GAA Clubhouse this Saturday, 19th November at 8.30pm.
The 400 pages cover families from all areas throughout the parish. Many members of Lorrha hurling teams feature in the book. They include well known supporter and officer, Jim O’Meara of Curragha and later Lorrha. Jim joined up but only served two weeks in training as his mother managed to obtain his discharge due to him being underage. Even though he only spent two weeks in the army, he was known ever afterwards as ‘the Private’, Sadly, Jim’s older brother Michael, an accomplished hurler himself, was not so lucky, being killed in action in the battle of Le Cateau, just five weeks before the armistice.
Indeed, during his research, Ger managed to locate the only known photograph of Michael Meara. In full uniform as a member of the Leinster Regiment it was taken in a studio in Cork while he was training in Victoria (now Collins) Barracks. It had been lost for many years.
Other sportsmen include accomplished polo player Charles Head of Derrylahan. An unexpected discovery during Ger’s research was how people with Lorrha connections deatured so prominently in the sport of motor racing. Charles Head’s grandson, Patrick Head is the well known Engineering Director of the Williams Formula One Racing Team.
Another car racer was Sir Henry O'Neil de Hane ‘Harry’ Segrave of Bellisle. Harry Segrave broke the world land speed record on three occasions. He went on to break the world speed boat record.

Sympathy: Lorrha GAA Club would like to sympthise with the Gormley family on the death of Matt John Gormley, The Pike, Rathcabbin, who passed away last week. Matt was a hugely popular member of the community, particularly through St Kieran's Nursing Home who most families in the parish would have had links with. Matt was also a fine hurler in his day and in 1965 played at wing back on the Lorrha/Knockshegowna team that won the North Under 21 Hurling title and was also on the panel the following year when they won the County final. May he rest in peace.
