Console named as one of Athlone Town FC’s Charity of Choice Athlone Town are delighted to announce Console as one of their charities of choice for 2010. Those who don’t know about this charity might like to know Console are a Registered Charity supporting and helping people bereaved through suicide. We respect each individual’s unique journey through the grieving process following their tragic loss.

Bennion and Caffrey sign for 2010 Athlone Town are delighted to announce the signing of former Bohemians, St Patricks Athletic, Glenavon and Sprting Fingal defender / midfielder Stephen Caffrey along with former Dundalk net minder Chris Bennion both on one year deals.
Caffrey who at 34 years of age brings huge experience with him to Athlone having made close on 300 hundred appearances for his former clubs. This includes 12 at UEFA - Champions League level. During his career he has also scored 22 goals including 1 in a Champions League Qualifier. He holds a long list of honours with 2 League Championship winning medals and an FAI Cup winners medal with Bohemians along with 1 Irish Cup, 1 Coca Cola League Cup and 1 Gold Cup winning medal with Glentoran.

ATFC News Athlone Town wish to confirm that Brendan Place will remain as the club’s First Team Manager for the 2010 season. Brendan will enter his second full season in charge of the club, having taken over the managerial reigns at the start of the 2009 season. Since the end of the 2009 season Brendan has contacted players with a view to signing them and we should be in a position to announce some new signings in the next couple of weeks.

When we were Kings A new book detailing Athlone Town’s only FAI Cup win, in 1924, is to be launched later this week. The book, written by Westmeath Independent editor Tadhg Carey, tells the story of the epic voyage undertaken by Athlone Town on their way to cup success. Published to mark the 85th anniversary, ‘When We Were Kings’ revisits an era of Irish football when Athlone Town FC were truly kings. The launch by former Athlone Town manager Turlough O’Connor will take place in the Shamrock Lodge Hotel in Athlone

Athlone Town FC Weekly News Charlie McGettigan will take to the stage of the Dean Crowe Theatre on Saturday, March 28th next, as part of a special fundraising concert in support of Athlone Town FC. Tickets are priced at €20 and €15 for Patrons Scheme members. For bookings contact the Dean Crowe Theatre on 090 6492129. Tickets are also available in Music World or Midland Sound Equipment.
